Only members of Congress and White House Staff have been able to review the gruesome photos of the dead Bin Laden. But, last week, Senator Jim Inhofe, the first senator allowed to view them, elaborated by stating that some of the photos revealed he was shot wearing only his underwear bottoms.

This is a curious fact when you look at all the animation in the media about the raid. Rather than underwear, Bin Laden is portrayed as wearing traditional Muslim attire.

Do you have one? Jodie Foster does. Actress/director Jodie Foster confessed to putting on odd colored underwear every time before she gets on a plane. Why? She didn’t give an answer. It might have something to do with motherhood and the scary thriller she made back in 2005 where her character boarded a plane with her daughter, only to have her child disappear mid-flight. Or it might be a long-time flying superstition. She is quoted as saying, "I put on underwear with strange colors when I get on a plane."

Well, the answer is "SOMETHING!" Have you noticed all these sheer dresses showing up on red carpets lately? How about these cut-out dresses like this one on JLo?

Is this really all that sexy? My mind instantly jumps to concern over a seam or piece of fabric accidentally moving and creating a TMI moment.

Here’s another example of what not to wear. At the Cannes Film Festival Mallika Sherawat arrived at the screening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" wearing a sheer black gown and obvious black panties underneath.

The solution is really two-fold. First, try and resist the look altogether and find something classy to wear. But, if shock treatment is what you want, at least give everyone’s eyes a tease by wearing shapewear or lingerie in the same color as your skin tone.

I always enjoy seeing a quirky solution to a public problem. So, this is my new favorite. The Brazilian Government just passed a bill requiring underwear manufacturers to add a warning label to all bras, panties, and men’s underwear about the importance of getting screenings for breast, uterine and prostate cancer respectively – yes a specific warning for each type of underwear! Oh, and for good measure the bill also threw in that all adult women’s underwear should have the suggestion that they make sure their partner use condoms. That’s right, not the men’s underwear, but the women’s. So, Brazil feels it’s the women who need to be the gatekeepers of condom use.

No, this hasn’t become law just yet – the president of Brazil has not yet signed it. But, it’s telling that this bill has been floating around in their congress since 1999. And a lot of thought has clearly gone into it. For example, realizing that this is a lot of information to put on a lingerie tag (after all, Brazilians are known for their skimpy underwear), an amendment was written to only require these warnings be printed on underwear packaging. But, thinking about this in a practical sense, doesn’t this defeat the purpose? The packaging is quickly discarded–the wearer never sees the warnings again.

Underwear and lingerie is big business in Brazil. They have over 6,000 manufacturers who make more than 2.8 billion pieces of underwear. And HerRoom and HisRoom have several brands coming from Brazil. LZ at HerRoom, for example. So, don’t be surprised to see this warning coming to a piece of underwear near you!

She’s young and has a beautiful bust line. But, she’s been seen out all too often bouncing along without any bra support. Now rumors about her lack of support are suggesting that her career could be impacted, should her breasts begin to sag.

So, here’s the reality about breasts and sagging. Breasts do not have muscles that you can exercise to make them firm and supported. Rather, breasts are held in place by ligaments called "Cooper’s ligaments." Gravity, bouncing and walking around without breast support will, over time, cause these ligaments to stretch. It’s these stretched-out ligaments that cause your breasts to sag. And, Hollywood does not like their starlets to have anything but perfect-looking breasts in nude scenes – which is the kind of movie opportunities Lindsay is being offered these days.

A perfect case in point is Kate Winslet’s Academy Award winning performance in "The Reader" where she had several nude scenes. I heard more than one man comment that she had "lost her rack." Shortly afterwards, Kate announced that she will no longer do nude scenes… I wonder why?

So Lindsay Lohan, get some support!

One of my many childhood memories is a rather humorous error my dad made– in front of the family– regarding my mom. I was too young to remember the context, but at the dinner table, Dad felt he was complimenting Mom by calling her figure Rubenesque. Well, all 6 kids absolutely remember the fireworks out of my mom immediately following the remark. Quick to explain his compliment, our dad went dashing into the library for an art book to buttress his remark. Things went from bad to worse when we all cast our eyes on these fleshy women painted by Rubens. We may have been young, but we knew that Dad really screwed up. I think he slept on the couch that night.

So, I was amused to read that the Triumph Lingerie Company is trying to gain support for naming women’s shapes to Old Master Artists and their interpretation of the female form. Their premise is that women have a negative reaction to having their body image defined or described as a fruit shape – apple, pear, banana, etc.

Triumph is proposing a woman be referred to as a Matisse rather than "pear-shaped," and as a Rembrandt if she is full busted with a full bottom. Though this is an iinitially intriguing alternative, I fear these artistic analogies could become problematic.

For example, what if someone said you had a Picasso figure? Would they be speaking of his earlier works or his later more abstract ones? Think about this. Is the person saying that they are aware that your breasts are not even or body parts are not in the normal position? What if they said you had an Andy Warhol figure? Does this mean you look like Marilyn Monroe or a soup can?

My father’s experience should be a cautionary tale to us all. This "Master Artist Body Type" concept needs some serious work.

Okay, I can’t help it. I watch these shows and my eyes always go to the starlet’s chest to see the bust/bra situation– Did she wear a bra? Did she need a bra? or, What did they do up there? As I observed, there were definitely some winners and losers.

One theme I saw was the strapless dress that came up high enough so that seeing cleavage was not an issue. Personally, I think this is a terrific look. It is so elegant and classy. It allows you to stand back and take in the entire look, rather than instantly honing in on their great (and many times not so great) cleavage. Examples of this were Nicole Kidman, Hillary Swank and Reese Witherspoon.

Strapless dresses can be a big miss when they make the breasts look unnatural or strange. This usually happens because instead of a strapless bra, the starlet has opted for duct tape or some other bizarre underpinning in an effort to get her cleavage where she wants it. A perfect example of this last night would be Giuliana Rancic who tried pushing up what she has very little of. And, it looks like she even tried putting make-up on her cleavage to accentuate it.

Mila Kunis looked beautiful last night in a soft and feminine lavender gown, and being young, she was able to go braless (which the gown required). And, kudos to her on behalf of all the less-than-endowed women for not trying to fake her breast size. That said, I still would have liked to have seen her neckline hiked up just a little more.

Finally, here are my two worst examples of cleavage last night. And, it’s really a shame because both had on beautiful dresses. If proper cups had been sewn into their gowns, their looks could have been a home run. Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend, Camila Alves could have used some lift. And Jennifer Hudson…. girl, what was going on under that dress?

We just ran our first contest ever on the HerRoom Facebook page. We asked women to submit a photo or two of their lingerie drawers and we picked those most in need of a makeover. The first prize was a $400 HerRoom shopping spree, with a second prize and honorable mentions as well. It was a lot of fun and, along the way we saw a few themes emerging, which we’re guessing apply beyond our contest.

The first thing we saw was that regardless of how much lingerie one owns, almost nothing fits. The primary reasons for this are weight loss or gain, pregnancy and childbirth or other changes in body shape. Many of the contestants are getting by on only one or two bras that fit them correctly. We thought that the winning contest entry illustrates this point perfectly.

Gain a few pounds, lose a few pounds–it’s easy to tell when your jeans don’t fit or a shirt doesn’t button. But with bras, that (mis)fit can be more subtle–straps that start slipping, bands that feel a little too tight, a bit of spillage over the tops of the bra cups or, as one contestant mentioned, cups that actually dent when you put them on–these are just a few of the signs that your bra does not fit.

And no matter how lovely your lingerie may be, if it doesn’t fit it’s just drawer decoration.

By the way, you can find more fit problems and solutions in the Fitting Guide on HerRoom.

Every plus-size lingerie brand we carry at HerRoom has been around for years prior to Oprah’s ‘Bra Intervention’ programs. But I will give her credit for bringing an awareness to women that they are probably in the wrong size bra. However, her deal with Nordstrom stores to promote/push women to get fitted there and proclaiming them as the mecca for lingerie shopping did no one but Nordstrom any favors.

Between her recent big ‘secret,’ these articles of self-promotion and numerous personal interviews as of late, I think we can all figure out that she is simply manipulating the media with her star power in an effort to promote her new network OWN. But hey, if I had her power, I’d probably be doing the same thing.
