Berenice Bejo Wears Maidenform at the Golden Globes

January 26, 2012

Berenice Bejo has a starring role in the recent Golden Globe winner and Academy Award-nominated movie "The Artist."  But, what many may not know is that under her flawless gown at the Golden Globes she was wearing a Maidenform strapless bra.

To be more specific, it was the Maidenform Custom Lift Strapless bra style 9455. I think this was a great choice.  This strapless bra has a rather unique feature. Its padding in the bottom of the cups is sized differently for each cup size. So, the amount of padding in an A cup is more than the padding in the B, C, or D cups – the padding decreases as the cup sizes increase.  This unique construction of the strapless bra means it stays up and will not look unnatural on you.

Berenice looked fabulous and so can you!

The Ultimate Push-Up Bra – Does it Really Give a 2 Cup Size Increase?

January 07, 2010

Victorias Secret maidenform bra

There’s been quite a bit of advertising about Victoria’s Secret’s "Miraculous" Push-up bra.  Made by the Maidenform Company, the claim is that special padding lifts you up and out, thus adding up to 2 full cup sizes to your breasts.  And it does all of this with amazing comfort while keeping a natural shape.

Wow!  That’s quite a promise.  So, I went and bought one and put it to the test.  By way of explanation, a one inch increase in the circumference of your chest along the nipple line qualifies as a cup size increase.  So, to make their claim true, a total of 2 inches to the circumference needs to be achieved.

So, here are the results.  We used one of our 34B models. Her measurements are:

Band 34"

Bust 36"

First, we put her in the Spanx 216 Bra-llelujah contour bra.  These photographs show her shape.

We then put her in Victoria’s Secret "Miraculous" bra.  Her measurements became:

Band 34"

Bust 38"

So, the claim is correct; her bust circumference increased by 2 inches.  And, I must say,  her cleavage and shape look natural and fabulous.

As I mentioned earlier, this bra is made by the Maidenform company.  And, apparently a deal was cut whereby Victoria’s Secret got the exclusive for the first 6 months.  And boy, are they taking advantage.  The Victoria price is $48 for the solid colors and $52 for the prints.

The Maidenform version arrived late June 2010.  Their design does have some differences – a little more coverage in the cups, a more stabilizing center front, and a different back design to provide more support.  Whereas the Victoria’s Secret bra goes up to DD cup sizing, the Maidenform will only go up to D cups. And, the biggest difference of all will be the pricing. The Maidenform price will be just $34. That’s a 30% price savings!

Personally, I’m very impressed.  The Maidenform Company, in my opinion, is the current leader in innovative bra designs. They have done a super job here creating a look of more natural cleavage.

On a final note, I do want to point out that we tried to measure the thickness of the padding in this bra.  In some places, the padding is over 1 inch thick.  So, I have a bit of a concern with how to care for it.  You don’t want to stick it in the dryer, yet with all that padding, will it dry fast enough so that there won’t be a problem with mildew from line drying?  The jury is out on this one.

Maidenform & Victoria’s Secret have teamed up before on the Total Solution and Perfect One Bras.

Maidenform’s Total Solution Bra & Victoria’s Secret Perfect One Bra – Is There a Difference?

August 03, 2009

If you haven’t yet taken a look at the "Total Solution" line of bras from Maidenform, it would be worth your while to do so.  They are the newest cutting-edge technology in bra support without seams.

Maidenform calls this patent-pending feature "Smartzone" cup technology.  But, even with all the tags they have attached to these bras, the customer probably doesn’t appreciate all they have to offer.  So, I’m going to take a shot at explaining it.

If you look at the inside of the cup on any of the Total Solution bras, you will see that the cup has three color sections.  The thin foam inner lining of the cup is all one piece, but to the naked eye, the foam looks like nothing more than foam that Maidenform simply put a print on.

What you are really looking at, however, is three different foam types (each with its own color) with different qualities — fused together to form one complete cup lining.

Okay, I know that is hard to follow.  So, look at this image that Maidenform provides:

Maidenform pad detailTheir illustration shows three sections with the words Firm, Evens Out Bust, Shape.  These word describe what each section does, but in sort of a marketing way.  After listening to Maidenform executives explain all of this to me in NYC last market, I can tell you there is a lot going on.

Let’s start with the "Firm" foam–it’s very rigid.  I pulled and tugged on it and it wouldn’t stretch.  So, having this kind of foam in the bottom of the cup gives you great support and lift to your breasts.  The "Evens Out Bust" foam has some stretch.  Having this type of foam across the mid-section of your breast helps to shape your breasts while eliminating nipple show-through.  Finally, the "shape" foam is quite stretchy in all directions.  Having this foam across the tops of your breasts means that it stretches as much or as little as you need to make this bra give you a custom fit without gaping.  So, as you can see, there really is a lot going on with this bra.

So what does all of this have to do with the Victoria’s Secret Perfect One bra?  Well,  Maidenform and Victoria’s Secret cut a deal, and the result is that the Victoria’s Secret bra uses the same technology in their Perfect One bra.  The Total Solutions bras and Perfect One bras are basically the same.  However, their cut is slightly different – the Victoria’s Secret bras have less breast coverage.

Now that I’ve explained all of this, I am going to muddy the waters a bit.  Maidenform Company also makes the Lilyette brand of bras.  Lilyette bras are known for being a great solution for women with full- figure cup sizes.  Well, Maidenform took this same Smartzone technology and then added a nipple cover panel inside the "perfects" foam section to help reduce nipple showthrough. They named all of this "Absolute Solution" and sell this modification to the Smartzone technology under their Lilyette brand.  So, for full figure women, you can now get this same technology with the added benefit of more nipple coverage.  Women of most bra sizes now have access to this great new breakthrough!
