Exciting New Bra From Fantasie is Coming!

September 06, 2011

Esme Fantasie braFantasie makes terrific full-busted bras.  So, naturally, when they showed me a new bra that will be coming this fall, I became very excited.

The new Fantasie bra is called Esme.  It is their next generation of a t-shirt bra.  Currently their Fantasie Smoothing T-shirt bra 4510 and their Fantasie Molded Smooth Cup bra 4500 have been  "go to" t-shirt bras for many successful years.  And if you own one, you know that both run a little large in the cups. Well, Fantasie has listened to their customer and come up with this new Esme solution.

The Esme uses a new molded shape to the cups.  Though the molded fabric has stripe detailing, it still provides a smooth line under clothing.  The straps have also been brought inward and are what is called "center pull" so that the lift from the straps comes at the breast apex rather than on the shoulders.  This also reduces strap slippage.

When comparing the Esme to the 4500 and 4510, I instantly saw that the cups are more paired down for a lighter look on the body.  The cups are also light and thin to keep volume to a minimum.

So, look for this new Fantasie Esme at HerRoom in the coming months.  I think you will love both the look and the fit.

My New “Go-To” Bra – Simone Perele Velia Contour Bra 118342

October 02, 2009

velia contour braBeing in the business, you can imagine; my bra drawer runneth over with options.  So, I’m always paying attention to what my early-morning, groggy auto-pilot mind plucks repeatedly as the bra-of-the-day.  This Simone Perele bra seems to be a frequent winner.

So, why?  I think it’s because it has a couple of features that I adore.  First, I always like a contour cup without seams. I tend to wear form-fitting clothes, so I never want any bra lines to show.  I also like modesty in the cups, and this bra has it.  Along the top of the cups there is sheer tulle trim that is both attractive and functional.  A personal pet peeve of mine is a top edge of a contour bra that is too thick.  When it’s thick, you see a line under t-shirts (regardless of it being a t-shirt bra).  So, I’m always on the hunt for a thin edge.  Simone Perele does a great job of keeping this edge thin along the top of the cup. And, this added tulle feature is just an additional step that ensures that bra lines are invisible under clothes.

Finally, I like this bra because the contour cups can be crushed without creasing.  I travel a bit, so I like to take a bra with a low center front that allows me to twist the center to nest the two cups. This makes for easy packing too.  This bra does all of that.

I am now a 34D (gone from a 36C after losing a few pounds) so my size does not have the bump pad like the smaller cup sizes.  Therefore, I can’t comment there.  But, if you are looking for a great t-shirt bra that disappears under clothing and travels well, this is a bra you should consider.

A Molded Bra Versus a Contour Bra – What’s the Difference?

March 25, 2009

The lingerie industry has created confusion over the last several years with the two terms "molded" and "contour" to describe a bra cup.  So, allow me to explain the difference.

A molded cup has been shaped over a breast mold to give it a pre-defined breast shape.  Fabric with synthetic fibers is stretched over a hot mold form, a second hot piece comes down on top of it and molds the former flat piece of fabric into the shape of a breast.  this piece is now the bra cup and is sewn into a bra frame.  Usually, the fabric is seamless, but molded cups can also contain seams – this gives added support.

A contour bra is a molded bra, but with a thin layer of foam included in the cup to provide modesty by reducing or eliminating nipple show-through.  This foam also helps create a specific shape to a woman’s breast tissue.  It can make you more rounded and uplifted.

Now, here’s where additional confusion comes in.  A contour bra is also called a t-shirt bra by many retailers and manufacturers.  So, I empathize with women out there who find this confusing.  But, there is a subtle distinction here as well.  A t-shirt bra always has a seamless cup with thin foam for modesty.  A contour bra also has the foam, but it can also have seams for added breast support.  So, a t-shirt bra is always a contour bra, but a contour bra is not always a t-shirt bra.

I personally am a big fan of the contour bra because it’s the perfect choice for any woman seeking a sculpted silhouette.  It offers a significant amount of coverage and adds definition, smooth shape, and best of all, the elimination of nipple show-through. Contour bras are also a good choice for in-between bra sizes, or a woman with uneven breasts.

Now, contour bras do have their detractors.  Larger breasted women don’t like them because they believe they add size to their bustline.  I would agree that in the past, this probably was true.  However, the manufacturers have really refined the contour bras to give shape and contour to the breast without adding volume.

A molded bra is usually made with a single piece of fabric or has a second layer for opacity and additional strength. It is the ultimate light-weight bra for a woman who wants to feel and look like she’s wearing nothing, but knows that she needs to wear something to make the girls look attractive and youthful.
